Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry involves the overall improvement of your smile. It includes improving the shape, alignment, colour of teeth and even replacing missing teeth. There is no denying that a smile makes a lasting impression. Perfectly aligned, white healthy teeth and correctly contoured gums will brighten and boost your confidence.
Our services include:
Tooth Whitening
ZOOM! Advanced Power Tooth Whitening
ZOOM! Advanced Power Tooth Whitening, also known as ‘in-chair’ tooth whitening is a simple procedure which produces immediate whiter teeth. The procedure involves the application of ZOOM! Gel which is designed to be used with the ZOOM! Advanced Power light. The light and the gel work together to gently break down tooth discolouration and stains resulting in whiter teeth.
There is a short preparation time at the beginning to cover lips and gums leaving only your teeth exposed. The ZOOM! Gel is then applied for 3 fifteen minute sessions for a total treatment time of 45 minutes.
At Home Whitening
Using custom made fitted trays you can complete the whitening process at home at a time convenient to you. The process is slower than ‘in-chair’ tooth whitening but can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. The duration and frequency of application will depend on the severity of your discolouration.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have about our whitening procedures and products. Our team is trained to advise you of the correct techniques and expected outcomes.
Veneers
These are thin, tooth coloured porcelain shells crafted to bond to and cover the front of a tooth. Dental veneers offer an excellent result if you are looking to improve the shape, colour or overall cosmetic appearance of one or more of your front teeth.
Once your treatment is complete, we will advise you of a careful cleaning routine including regular visits to us to ensure that your veneers are kept in the best possible condition.
Dental Implants
Missing teeth or dentures can now be replaced with dental implants. Dental implants are made from titanium or a titanium alloy, as it has been proven that these materials are well tolerated by bone. A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural tooth root and is commonly a modified cylinder shape. Each implant is placed into your jawbone in the location of the intended replacement tooth. This achieves close contact between the implant and the bone creating an initial stability which over time is enhanced as the bone grows into the roughness of the implant surface.
In order to support replacement teeth dental implants have a form of internal screw thread that allows a variety of components to be fitted providing an anchor for a crown or a set of crowns or bridges or dentures.
This exciting treatment option is available for patients who would like to regain their full function and self confidence as implants offer a long term option for replacing one or more missing teeth.
Crown and Bridges
A dental crown (also known as a dental cap or tooth cap) is a restoration that is used to restore a tooth to its original shape, strengthen a tooth or improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth. This type of restoration is particularly ideal if your tooth has become unstable due to extensive decay or continual breakage.
A crown is designed by the dentist and usually created by a lab technician, it is customized to fit your tooth. Crowns can be either metal, porcelain fused to metal or all porcelain/ceramic. Porcelain crowns will be made in the same colour shade as your other teeth.
Crowns can be easily cared for using your normal daily routine and offer a protective and long term result.
Bridges
A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Two dental crowns are made for the teeth on either side of the gap and custom made teeth in between. Once cemented in place the dental bridge fills the area left by the missing tooth or teeth. The result effectively ‘bridges the gap’.
The treatment process involves a detailed preparation appointment with the dentist where specific information is collected and impressions are taken. Once your bridge has been designed by a lab technician, we will check how it fits and then cement it into place. The custom made teeth will be carefully colour matched to your existing teeth.
Tooth coloured fillings
Unsightly silver fillings are a thing of the past. We use composite resins to create tooth coloured fillings that match the shape and shade of your original teeth. After preparing the tooth our dentist will place layers of the composite filling into the area to be repaired. Each layer of the composite material is hardened by exposure to a special light. Once the cavity or defect is filled our dentist will trim the composite to fit the tooth and then polish it to reduce discolouration or staining.
